To Asklepios
by Rebecca Buchanan

Asklepios
Whose famed temples of Tricca
and Cos and
Epidaurus
Welcome weary pilgrims from lands distant and near:
I hail you
Compassionate son of Koronis and the Light-Bringer
Wise father of Hygeia, who stands at your right hand.
Accept this offering.
Meager it is, but sincere and heart-felt,
Offered in gratitude for blessings of healing and health,
       sound mind and strong heart.
Blessings given with gentle hands.

A Healer's Prayer to Asklepios
by Amanda Sioux Blake

Asklepios, mortal-born Son of Apollo
I pray to You, Divine Healer
Who knows the pains of mortal bodies
Who knows the woes of human minds
The pang of hunger and ache of bones
Kindly and wise, most merciful of the Gods
Who raised the dead from Haides' shadowy realm.
The Khthonic King complained to Zeus
Who stuck You down with a lightning bolt
For violating the natural order.
But You were so loved that owl-eyed Athene
And Your Father the far-shooting Apollo
Pleaded the case before the Olympian King
And You were brought back, an eternal and undying God.
Your ancient temples were places of healing
Sanctuaries for the sick
Your priests were healers, the first doctors
And You come to Your worshipers in dreams,
Telling them how to cure themselves.
Hippocrates drew His inspiration from You, snaky God of Kos,
And looked to Your example when he created the Physician's Oath.
Guide my hands, Son of Apollo, so I may heal
Guide my heart, Son of Koronis, so I may have empathy
Guide my mind, Epidaurian, so I may understand
Guide my steps, Kindly Asklepios, so I may I begin to walk the path of the healer.

To Asklepios
by Erynn Laurie

I sing of the Healer
Child of Coronis
Lord of the Serpents
Bright Ophiuchus

Muses make music
Songs for my singing
Freeing my tongue
In Asklepios' name

Pour out your blessings
Brew precious philters
Bright blood of Gorgon
Saving from death

Darken your temple O bringer of dreams
Snuff out our candles
Visit our sleep mats
Breathe in our incense
Dance in the chambers of our hearts

Health is in your body
Life is in your fingers
Breath is in your passing
Even the hem of your robe is healing

You emanate serpents
Rough and reptilian
Glycon you fathered
And serpents of wisdom
The art of elixirs you give

Praise to the dreamer
And bringer of visions
Measure of wholeness
The fruit of your lips

Each word you utter
A great incantation
Holy physician
My song is for you

Hail Asklepios
by Amanda Sioux Blake

Hail Asklepios,
Who dwells among men!
Hail Asklepios,
The snakey God!
Hail Asklepios,
Kindly healer!
Hail Asklepios,
Immortal son of Apollo!
May you smile on me
In all my endeavors
May you walk beside me, glorious one
Your hands guiding mine
Your voice in my ear
Your holy dream-giving snakes at my feet
So I may heal the sick
So I may give rest to the weary
So I may feed the poor
So I may make the lives of my fellow man better
Asklepios, mortal-born, ascended to Heaven,
This is my prayer.
May you hear my heartfelt cry, and rejoice.

Prayer for Asklepios' Day
by Amanda Sioux Blake

(To be said on the eighth of the lunar month)

Hail to You, Epidauran!
Snaky God of Kos, the doctor's inspiration
Son of Apollo, born of fire
Mortal-mothered, Who knows the pain of mortal bodies
Merciful cheater of death

On this, Your sacred day, I offer You (white wine/sweet honey/healing herbs)
Heal me, Asklepios, so I may heal others.
